Earlier this month my sister started a new Etsy shop and that has me all excited about handmade products. I personally did not know that Etsy was so popular and that so many internet shoppers were making a point at buying handmade products. In the interest of supporting homemade items and Etsy owners, Feed Your Pig is going to show off as many as possible. Contests with Etsy owners will fatten your pig a little and help fatten the pig of Etsy owners!

While shopping around Etsy's website a few days ago, I came across Ozark Scent Candle Company! I really liked how professional her pictures were and that she is using soy to make her candles. I had the chance to chat with Amy who owns the company and she gave me some insight on what it's like to make candles by hand. Here is what she had to say:

What Makes Ozark Scents Candle Co. special?

I think what makes Ozark Scents special is that we are a small home-based business, so we pay a lot more attention to our customers, being small lets us get to a more personal level with our customers, and I enjoy that part. I also believe that Ozark Scents is special because I LOVE what I am creating and I want to create the best products I can, after all I use everything I make and so does my family, so I want it to be great! I also really put my heart into everything I make, I just really love being able to do this. It is also great to be able to work with my Grandmother and my sister. I know that it makes it all very special to me.

If you could tell our readers one thing about candle making, or running an Etsy shop, what would it be?

One thing about candle making that people may not know is that it involves so much research and testing to make a great candle. There are so many different waxes and additives, and the part that I think is the hardest is wicking. There are loads of wicks to choose from and each wax and fragrance oil do differently with different wicks. It just really takes a lot of knowledge and TONS of testing to get it right. I have a journal that I have kept to take notes in, write the "recipes" in. If I change even the slightest thing I write it down and test it first. I feel like a mad scientist sometimes!! :)


Out of the candles and soap you make, which is your very favorite?

...I LOVE so many fragrances and soaps it's not even funny!! :) That is why I started making candles & soaps because I am a candle/soap junkie!! I would have to say I love, love, love, my Honey Almond soap (it is what I use the most) & Brown Sugar & Fig candles I burn the most right now...but really I LOVE them all. It also depends on the season and my mood sometimes too.
