Feed Your Pig Sunday Supports.... Breast Cancer Research!

Welcome to our first installment of Sunday Supports! There will be a featured post at least twice a month on Sunday that focuses on social cause and issues that you and I find important! I will try to provide you with products and information that support the issue and hope to have some contests for you also! I am making a list of causes suggested by readers to feature, so feel free to e-mail me with any suggestion you have!

While searching around for sponsorship for my blog, I came across Helen who makes Juicy Bags! Helen is a work at home Registered Nurse, maker of Juicy Bags, blogger (see the Triage From Home blog here) , Twitterer, and much more. Helen shared with me that she is currently raising money for the "Weekend To End Breast Cancer" that will be held in August and benefits the BC Cancer Foundation. To find out more about her and why she is driven to help survivors, patients, and families touch by breast cancer, I ask her some questions! Read on to learn more about Helen...

How has breast cancer touched your life?
My Aunt Sharon died less than a year after being diagnosed with metastatic (spread) breast cancer in 1999. She was only in her 50's. She missed out on so much: her daughters' weddings, the births of her 4 grandchildren...the list could go on and on. She was a fun-loving person with a great personality. We all miss her very much.

Why have you picked the BC Cancer Foundation over other Breast Cancer Charities?

I have wanted to do the Weekend to End Breast Cancer Walk for several years now, but this is the first year that I felt I had enough time to devote to the training and the fund raising required. I have heard from past participants that it's a weekend they will never forget and an amazing experience. I want to be part of that to honor my aunt's memory. My goal is to raise $4000 by August.

If you could give one piece of advice or encouragement to those whose lives are touched by cancer, what would it be?
My father also died of cancer in 1999. I would say that we all need to keep working hard to develop new treatments and never lose hope. Take comfort in your friends and family.

Here are some fast facts on br
east cancer that you may not be aware of...
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women no matter what your race is.
Symptoms of breast cancer can a new lump in your breast or armpit, thickening of the skin on the breast, irritation or dimpling of the breast skin, redness or flaky skin in the nipple area, nipple discharge other than milk, any change in the size or shape, and pain in any area of the breast.

Helen is raising money for the Weekend To End Breast Cancer in several different ways. One of the way is by online auctions of different products donated by sponsors including her very own Juicy Bags. Helen's bags are so cute! They are made from recycle blue jeans and Tropical Punch Koolaid Jammer pouches! She is also taking donations via her Weekend To End Breast Cancer website! Donations are made in Canadian funds which will save those in the USA some money even while donating due to the currency exchange! You can also make a donation via PayPal to the fund if you prefer. Please visit Helen's Triage From Home blog and click the PayPal donate link on the right! Helen is generously offering to sponsor a contest on our first Sunday Supports to bring attention to breast cancer and raise awareness of the BC Breast Cancer Foundation!
