Feed Your Pig... Save Your Leftovers! *Contest*

Do you save your leftovers? I struggle with leftovers because I can never find the right sized container to put them in or I put them into a container and they go bad before I feel like eating them again. In terms of feeding the pig a little extra each week, all of us could save by making our meals last a meal or 2 extra. How much would you save if you ate 4 or 5 leftover meals a week? I think my family would save around 50 dollars per week. The problem is getting motivated to eat leftovers and find good containers to put them in so they are fresh the next day (or even days after).

Lucky for me, Rubbermaid has saved the day by sending me a package of new containers to try out! The Rubbermaid Company was kind enough to send me the All In One 20 Piece Set Featuring Easy Find Lids
! This set has 20 pieces of Rubbermaid food storage containers in 4 different styles, but all featuring the Easy Find Lids. See the different types of containers in the picture below....

What are the benefits of the Easy Find Lid feature?

1. In the graphic below, you can see that each lid snaps to the base of each container! I found this most helpful by snapping the lid to the base after washing it so that they did not become separated. This is especially helpful when only washing one container at a time.

2. As in the graphic below, each of the lids snap together! Since they also snap to the base, you can snap several lids together and then stack several containers together. Here again, the lids and containers are together and organized. I found that these containers fit better in my cabinets because they stack this way and are not thrown all over the place.

I personally used each of the different types of containers in the package to see how each worked for my families needs. I found all the of them to do exactly what they claim! First, I tried the large Product Saver container that comes in the set. The Produce Saver allows your fruits and veggies to "breath" and has a tray in the bottom the allows moisture to drip off the produce into the bottom of the container. This keeps the products from staying moist itself and this slows the process of decay down. My family eats strawberries often so I bought a pack of those and immediately put them in the Produce Saver. I would say that the last strawberries left kept fresh in that container about 3 to 4 days longer than the regular store container I would normally store them in. I think that's incredible. It will definitly save me money, by giving me more time to eat produce and then we won't be throwing away food so often.

Another true test of plastic containers, in my opinion, is Chef Boyarde or Spaghetti Sauce left overs. For me, once the plastic container is stained red, I don't want to put other foods in it. It just gets thrown away and that's so wasteful. So I empty a whole can of Chef Boyarde Ravioli into one of the Premier Stain Resistant containers in the set. I let it sit in the fridge for 2 days and then washed it out. Did it stain with that nasty red color? NO! I am amazed. Truely.

The Lock-It Lids Containers are really nice because they have tab snaps that snap over the rim of the container. I thought this would be perfect for carrying leftover chili or soup. I did try the upside down test with the Lock-It Lids large container and a can of runny Skyline Chili. No spills here. These are perfect for lunch boxes or bags! I have used the Easy Lids Everday Containers for different foods like leftover hamburger and cooked spinach They work just as well.

Overall, I loved the products that were sent. They do what they claim to do and the easy lids really do make it easier to organize your kitchen. I'm not big on leftovers, but will definitly eat more now that I have a nice set to store them in. These could easily be used to setup your meals a day ahead. I'm sure you could find a hundred good uses for them and ways to feed your pig!

Win It!
One winner will receive the All In One 20 Piece Set Featuring Easy Find LIds!

I learned in the "Pantry" section to label the containers, so that it makes it easy to tell what is in each container. It is hard to tell at a glance whether something is flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, cornstarch, etc. My mom had always told me to write what it is on a piece paper, and then just put that piece of paper inside of the container. But inevitably, the contents inside would shift, and I'd have to go fishing for it. The label idea is much better.

I learned 1.With notepad in hand, walk through your home and note the areas you want to work on.
2.Choose an area to get organized, schedule it on your calendar.
3.Break the project down into small tasks. Instead of organize kitchen, think organize upper cabinets, lower cabinets, junk drawer, pantry, or counter top.
4.Take on one small task and complete it.
5.Schedule your next project.
